The work consists of a series of illustrations for a collection of ritual songs. Hayivka is a kind of freckles, ancient Slavic ritual songs associated with the beginning of spring and the approach of spring field work.
Hayivkas are an important element of folk folklore and occupy an important place in Ukrainian culture.
After reviewing and analyzing the existing collections (which are already 30-50 years old), I decided to work on the form and rethink the presentation of the songs. During the work on the project, Ukrainian vyshyvankas, carpets and traditions of vytynanaks of Western Ukraine were studied.
Each illustration is an archaic sign symbol, such as the tree of life, a dove (a bird symbol), a flower, a woman-mother of the family, and a sign of fertility. Having looked at these symbols in the culture of Western Ukraine on Easter eggs, embroidery, etc., I created compositions based on them.
